Merced River Juvenile Chinook Outmigration Update

Sampling Period: March 12 - April 1, 2007

 

Hatfield State Park:

During this sampling period, one Chinook salmon (FL 87mm) was collected on March 28th, while two more Chinook salmon (FL 80 mm, 5.3 g; FL 82 mm, 5.6 g) (Figure 1) were collected on March 30th along with 600+ juvenile Sacramento suckers (Figure 2).  Several other non-target species have been collected including Sacramento suckers, spotted bass, prickly sculpin, largemouth bass, white catfish, golden shiner, and channel catfish.

Zero O. mykiss were collected during this sampling period.

No trap efficiency tests were conducted during this sampling period.

Environmental Data: 

Instantaneous water temperature measured at the Hatfield rotary screw trap ranged from 41.5°F to 68.3°F.  Instantaneous turbidity measured at Hatfield rotary screw trap ranged from 0.36 to 12.2 NTU.  During the sampling period flows at Snelling (MSN; RM 46) ranged from 272 to 306 cfs, and at Cressy (CRS; RM 27) from 198 to 235 cfs.  Hourly flows in Dry Creek (DSN; confluence at RM 31.5), which is a significant tributary to the Merced River, ranged from 34 to 44 cfs.
