Dr. Jones brings to Cramer Fish Sciences a combination of training and experience,
having an extensive background in experimental design, spatial and quantitative
analysis, as well as experience working with a number of California's resource agencies.
Responsibilities: Kris has spent more than five years working on watershed
related issues in California's Central Valley; he has professional experience with
CEQA/NEPA, as well as both the California and federal Endangered Species Act. He
also played an active role in work relating to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
(FERC) relicensing of Lake Oroville Facilities.
Kris has extensive experience as a field ecologist and is skilled in a variety of
sampling techniques, habitat assessments, species surveys, as well as habitat
restoration and monitoring. He is skilled in GPS/GIS technologies and spatial
analysis. He is also adept at using molecular tools to look at complex ecological
questions (lab techniques include DNA extraction, primer design, PCR, and sequence
analysis). He also has a proven ability to write and publish at a high level and
extensive experience presenting research to both scientific and non-scientific
audiences (nationally and internationally).
Background: Dr. Jones earned his Bachelor's of Science in Biological
Conservation with a minor in Chemistry from California State University, Sacramento
(2002). During his undergraduate studies he also participated in a one year Limnology
program at Uppsala University in Sweden. He recently completed his doctorate in Zoology
at the University of Oxford, as a Graduate Research Fellow with the National Science
Foundation (2009).
Personal: Outside
of work, Kris enjoys spending time with his friends
and family. He also enjoys being outdoors, taking road trips, traveling, hiking,
cycling, and playing a variety of racket sports.
