Manager for biological monitoring on the Merced River,
John Montgomery coordinates operations among multi-agency
field crews to ensure quality data collection through strict adherence to
standardized protocol procedures.
Responsibilities: John ensures quality control for entry of
multi-project data in the fisheries database, and communicates that data to
current and prospective funding agencies through reports, presentations, and
current, well-maintained project web sites.
Background: In previous work as a biological technician for
Natural Resource Scientists, John worked to establish peak efficiency protocol
in the set up of receiver stations for an acoustic fish telemetry study for the
Vernalis Adaptive Management Program and to improve accuracy and precision of
water sampling procedures through establishment of quality assurance protocols.
As a field technician for California State University,
he was involved in setting up and maintaining hundreds of traps at multiple sites as
part of a long term habitat recovery study. He also captured, processed and released
potentially infectious specimens in a safe and humane manner.
John Montgomery holds a Bachelor's degree in biology
from California State University at Stanislaus. He has been active in a variety of
organizations. An avid skier and fisherman, he also has NAUI Scuba Certification.
Personal: "Hi, my name
is John and I am a recovering
adrenaline addict. I love alpine skiing, downhill mountain biking, scuba
and free diving. Living in the valley has slowed my downhill biking
so now I ride a bike powered by gasoline. More relaxing adventures usually
involve fishing, day hiking, or extended backpack trips." |
