WHO WE ARE
Summer Internships at CFS
We have had the pleasure of hosting two interns at River Science & Restoration Lab in West Sacramento, CA. Internships are a great way for us to give back to the community, mentor up-and-coming youth, and gain fresh perspectives. We hope to continue to expand our internship opportunities in years to come.

Sabawoon Hakimi is an intern through the City of West Sacramento Home Run program. This summer, Saba worked with Cramer’s data management team to develop two field data collection applications. The ability to collect data electronically improves our data handling time and allows us to build in quality control steps at the front-end of data collection, rather than after the fact. Saba also helped make advancements in automated image analysis which will allow us to collect more data in shorter amounts of time.
“My name is Sabawoon Hakimi. I am a recent graduate of River City High School and will attend California Polytechnic – San Luis Obispo for a Bachelor’s in computer science. I plan to pursue a career in tech, so this internship was love at first sight. The opportunity to get real-world experience with app development is the perfect transition to my time at Cal Poly. I love what I am doing because every day is a chance to learn about my future career.”

Claire Inouye is an intern through the University of California – Davis Department of Wildlife, Fish, and Conservation Biology’s Lloyd Swift Endowment Fund. Claire is working with Cramer this summer to improve methods for estimating aquatic invertebrate biomass. The invertebrate community provides prey for juvenile salmon and accurately estimating their mass is important to understand suitability of fish habitat at restoration sites.
“My name is Claire Inouye. I am entering my fourth year studying Wildlife, Fish, and Conservation Biology at UC Davis. I have always wanted to work with wildlife and working with Cramer Fish Sciences is giving me the unique opportunity to dip my toes into the fieldwork, lab work, and office work that goes with it. I am very thankful to gain experience in my desired field and am excited to see where the Bug Biomass project will go!”
Saba and Claire have been great to have around the lab and in the field. They have both demonstrated strong work ethic, attention to detail, and have fit in with our crew fantastically. We just know they are going to be successful in whatever career they choose.
